Pinky is our resident snuggle buddy! We rescued this diabetic sweet girl in 2021. Still a little shy, she is often found in the back snuggling in her favorite bed. She’s here for her staff and always ready to cuddle!
Alex joined our team in 2021 as a part time veterinary assistant, while pursuing a degree in Applied Animal Biology at UBC. Alex always knew she wanted a future in veterinary medicine or animal welfare. She has worked at a few other clinics in the lower mainland and has experience in shelters and wildlife rehabilitation. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and weight lifting. While Alex does not have any pets of her own, she hopes to soon adopt a senior kitty!
Johwena started as a part-time veterinary assistant in 2021 and got promoted to full-time in 2022 once she realized that this career path suited her. She completed her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Guelph in 2018. She always had an interest in working with animals and enjoys the work that she does involve them. Her past experience includes working and helping in shelters, research studies and in wildlife rehabilitation. She’s a hard-working and compassionate individual who goes above and beyond for the animals in her care.
Karampreet (Karam) joined the Alta Vista Team in 2021 as our full-time secondary receptionist. She is kind and gentle and always willing to help. She moved here from India with her family and graduated from Capilano University. Since working here, Karam found a love for working with animals and has been interested in further pursuing a career within the veterinary field. She has grown so much since she first started and is always very interested in learning more!
Ilene is a veterinary assistant and has been working at the clinic since 2020. Her enthusiastic and warm character ensures that anyone who visits Alta Vista has a wonderful experience at the clinic. After working for a year at the clinic, her love and care for animals motivated her to enroll at Penn Foster College to complete the Veterinary Technician program. She is determined to finish the course which will allow her to further provide exceptional care for animals and their well-being.
Serene grew up in Malaysia and came to Canada to pursue a degree at UBC. Serene joined us in 2020 as a part-time veterinary assistant as she pursued her university degree. Since graduating, she found that her love and compassion for animals made her interested in working with us full time. Her hard working mentality has made her an essential member of our team. Serene also speaks Mandarin, so make sure you ask for her if is not your first language! In her spare time, she enjoys outdoor activities like hiking and camping.
Monica is one of the first faces you will see here at Alta Vista! She joined our team in 2019 and her cheery attitude and her love for animals always brings a smile to everyone’s faces. She is our “clinic mom” and is always looking out for everyone and bringing us home cooked food. Monica moved to Vancouver from New Delhi, India with her family in 2019. She is our lead receptionist at our clinic and we are so happy to have her. In her free time she loves spending time with her kids and her extended family.
Jodie is our longest-standing employee at Alta Vista. She joined in 2016 as a veterinary assistant while she was completing her university degree at UBC. She has always had a passion for animals and has worked with rescues, and researchers and even interned at a wildlife rehabilitation center. Her passion for animals and veterinary medicine made her decide to further pursue her career as a veterinary technician. She graduated from Douglas College Veterinary Technician Program in 2020 and since integrated into her new role as our head veterinary technician and manager! She is always working tirelessly to ensure that every pet and her staff is given the best care.
Dr. Kahlon first purchased Alta Vista Animal hospital in 1998 and remained the lead Veterinarian for 10 years. In 1998, he sold the practice to Dr. Munjal, and continued to pursue his studies to become a surgeon. Upon completion he helps numerous clinics throughout the lower mainland perform specialized surgeries. He is always happy to consult on specialized cases and is around to perform specialized surgeries.
Dr. Naresh Dhiman was born and raised in India, where he completed his studies in veterinary medicine with post-graduation specialty in veterinary surgery and radiology. He worked in India as a veterinarian for 25 years. Before he decided to move to Vancouver, he completed his certification in Calgary and Saskatchewan. He joined our team as our primary surgeon in 2019.
Dr. Parveen Munjal first showed interest in veterinary medicine while helping on his family’s farm in India. He decided to continue his studies and graduated from Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in 1993 with a Masters in Gynecology and Obstetrics. In 2004, Dr. Munjal moved to Canada with his family. After passing his boards, he furthered his education in the United States at Oklahoma State University in Veterinary Medicine while enrolled in a one year clinical rotation. On completion, Dr. Munjal received an ECFVG from the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association). After receiving his license from the Canadian Veterinary Association in 2006, Dr. Munjal started working in different Veterinary Clinics on the lower mainland. In 2008, Dr. Munjal bought Alta Vista Animal Hospital from friend and colleague Dr. Kahlon who has been serving the West side Vancouver community since 1998. His many years of experience have helped him become a knowledgeable and committed veterinarian. He shows interest in other medical areas such as ophthalmology and preventive medicine and is continually updating his medical knowledge. When he is away from the office, Dr. Munjal enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
The latest addition to our veterinary team! I am approximately 2 years old and full of life energy and SASS! You can often see me at my new job of office security, from my post at the highest point of the front shelves. I am still getting used to meeting new friends and can be a bit of a troublemaker. The team at Alta Vista is working closely with me to help orient me to my new lifestyle. I’m full of energy and always want to play. Come by and say hi to me!
Being the most recent feline member of Alta Vista Animal Hospital, I have many responsibilities! Dr. Munjal and staff decided to adopt me from an Action for Animals litter when I had some health concerns and needed a little more attention. The biggest perk of living at the clinic is the amount of new friends I can make whether they want it or not. There’s also an abundance of food to “borrow” whether it is mine or belongs to someone else. I happen to be sneaky and stealthy regardless of my size – at least for the first few minutes. Speaking of size, most people seem to be under the impression that my roundish figure is somehow connected to my love of food and treats. I prefer to think I have big bones. There are often numerous places in the clinic for me to sleep which include the front kitten cage, other patients beds or cages or the front desk. I always like to meet new faces and tails so bring your furry friend to come meet me (but don’t forget the treats)!
In memory of our beautiful Jaggie Boy. Alta Vista Animal Hospital was his home for over 16 years. Dr. Kahlon adopted little Jag when he was just a kitten and spent most of the time being the poster cat of the clinic. Here’s a little piece of his story to share and he continues to be greatly missed. Forever our neighbourhood Jaguar “They named me Jaguar (Jagger or my least favourite, Jaggie) because of my glossy black coat and yellow eyes. Don’t be fooled when you sit down on a black chair and it’s actually me! I’ve seen many pets in my long years and even though I am not so fond of kittens or other pets anymore I like to think I keep an order about the clinic. You can find me in my bed until the afternoon then I patrol the front desk making sure the daily tasks are done correctly. My jaguarish looks may deceive you but I love cuddles if I’m in the right mood and I welcome treats any time of day!”
Bio coming soon…
